Advancing to Candidacy

Oral Exam: Major Field (Latin American History)

On August 22nd, my orals exam committee (Matt Karush, Joan Bristol, and Michelle Greet) will take much pleasure in putting me through the same hot seat every PhD underwent in their own progress. Academic hazing? I’d rather view the orals exam as a chance to show that I can teach a Latin American History course and that I have some sense of what major works in the field have discussed and debated.

To prepare, I am putting together study guides to examine all my readings from various perspectives.
